Representative Ann Wagner Town Hall
Hundreds Attend Town Hall in Missouri’s 2nd District, But Rep. Ann Wagner Is a No-Show
More than 400 people packed the Arnold VFW in Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District on April 3rd, voicing their growing frustration with Representative Ann Wagner’s continued absence and lack of response to constituent concerns.
The event, organized by BeHeard Missouri, BeHeard PAC, and Indivisible St. Louis, featured about 40 speakers from across the district. They shared personal stories and urgent appeals, many centered on cuts to Social Security and Medicaid and the impact of proposed federal cuts on Missourians’ lives.
Rep. Wagner was invited to attend but declined. Organizers say the first invitation received a generic form response. A second invitation was met with an unrelated form reply referencing a piece of legislation — H.R. 9594, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act — which had no connection to the event. Neither response acknowledged the town hall.
In her absence, a life-size cardboard cutout of Rep. Wagner stood at the front of the room. Attendees directed their comments toward it.
“We can’t discuss something with a cardboard cut out,” said constituent Joe Davis. “Where are you?”
“I am asking you today — I would have — will you commit to protecting Medicaid and the Department of Education?” said speaker Natalie McKelly, addressing the cutout. “Will you stand up for Missouri’s children and families, not just in words but in action? I urge you, do not let these programs be gutted under your watch. We are counting on you.”
